Charity Single for Ukraine from Semi Detached

In addition to his artwork, Pip (aka Phil Pike) also plays guitar and writes music in two bands. One of these band's 'Semi Detached' have just released a new charity single in support of Ukraine. The 'synth and sample' instrumental single 'Shell Shock' has been played on BBC radio and all proceeds from streaming and downloads of the track will go to UNITED24, a Ukrainian charity set up by President Zelensky to provide vital aid.

Rod Howell, the band's keyboard player, said "We have been deeply shocked and saddened by the brutal attack of Russia on Ukraine and its civilians. We wanted to create something that expressed our solidarity with the people of Ukraine, and at the same time raise awareness and money for UNITED24. Please download the track if you can and help us to promote the single by sharing widely. The vocal sample in the track is a recreation of a radio transmission from Snake Island to a Russian Warship early in the conflict. The transmission roughly translates as "Russian Warship, go f**k yourself". A reasonably response, we feel, in the circumstances."

Listen to Shell Shock

'Shell Shock' is available to stream or download on all major music platforms. Please do listen on your preferred channel using the links below and make sure you subscribe/follow us and add the song to your playlists! We would appreciate it if you could buy the track if you can - it costs less than £1 and is raising money for a very worthy cause.

About Semi Detached

Semi Detached is a fun pop trio whose members consist of Tadge Szestak, Phil Pike and Rod Howell; three school friends from Worcester in the UK growing up together in the 80’s who in 1990 decided to form a band. We are drawn together by friendship, a shared love of music, song-writing, and a desire to get our creations recorded.

Influences are diverse and this is reflected in our eclectic music output which spans across many pop and rock genres making it typically hard to categorise!

We are not prolific! To date we have written 3 studio albums over the last 30 years averaging one album every 10 years. Our first album, the cheerfully titled Rest In Peace was released in 1991. Our ‘difficult’ 2nd album, Domestic Graffiti, was finally recorded in 2015 some 25 years after the 1st! In 2021 we were excited to release a double album of brand new material called Feel No Evil, marking our 30th anniversary for the band.

About UNITED24

UNITED24 was launched by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, as the main venue for collecting charitable donations in support of Ukraine. Funds are be transferred to the official accounts of the National Bank of Ukraine and allocated by assigned ministries to cover the most pressing need.
